When Phil Mickelson (yes, the three-time Masters champion) was just eight years old, he was picking up golf balls on a driving range with a hard hat for work, because his family could not afford a golf course membership. Why can't every child be like "Lefty" (which is ironic because he's actually right handed)? Why can't your child have the same drive and passion to eventually become one of golf's most loveable professionals?
Get your child started young! Just about every golfer on tour began at a young age. The best way to do this is to take your kid to a small par 3 course just when he or she is strong enough to swing a club correctly. Maybe even set up a small flagstick or net in the backyard and allow your child to just swing away at it.
Whatever you do, don't force it. Everyone knows that kids are rebellious, and whatever parents tell the child to do, they will do the opposite. Unless of course they love what they're doing. If you haven't done so already, you can check out my top golf practice facilities in the Austin area and get your kid started there. If he or she wants to, and when they are old enough to start working, search for jobs at golf courses and never pay for a round again.
