Engaging in social media is quickly becoming de rigueur for travel vendors who want to expand and maintain their customer base. To promote its frequent flyer miles program, American Airlines is doling out 100 to 100,000 miles for free to each AAdvantage member that "like" the AAdvantage program on Facebook. Simply enter your AAdvantage number to see how many miles you've received. The miles are deposited into your account within three to five business days. You can sign up for an AAdvantage number instantly if you're not already part of the program. The promotion runs through March 31, 2011.
American Airlines is the first airline with Facebook and Twitter accounts specifically for its miles program. AAdvantage members who want to maximize their miles as much as possible should follow @AAdvantage to be notified of mileage deals. A recent tweet notified followers that AAdvantage Dining members are able to earn double miles for their next five dines through March 31, 2011. The AAdvantage Dining program allows members to earn miles each time they dine at a participating restaurant, bar or club. Simply register your debit or credit card on the AAdvantage Dining site and use it for payment at a participating establishment to recieve the miles. New members can receive 1,000 miles just for joining by March 31, 2011 and completing two dines and post-dine reviews.
American Airlines' current flight deals from San Francisco include Miami for $169 and Augusta for $149.
