If you are interested in viewing posters that depict Rhythm and Blues artists, you need to Get Up Offa That (your) Thing (butt). The song is by James Brown, one of the greatest Rhythm and Blues musicians. The poster has the title, Get On Up.

Billboards and posters are types of art exhibits. Usually, more people (commuters, motorists and pedestrians) will see these than the art patrons who visit museums. However, one of the disadvantages to displaying unenclosed posters and billboards is that rain and sunshine will deteriorate their color qualities.

Get On Up, The James Brown Story in billboard/poster form (approximately three feet wide and three feet long), is at many, Chicago, commuter train stations. Blue is the dominant color, perhaps intentionally to symbolize the Blues. James Brown’s, dynamic pose certainly symbolizes rhythm. In the lettering, white and yellow are secondary colors. The balance is asymmetric; James Brown’s figure on the left side takes up more space than the lettering on the right.

These posters have the Pop Art Style. In addition, they qualify as Commercialism Art since they advertise the upcoming movie (Aug. 1, 2014). These art style designations should not make you Bewildered.

Chadwick Boseman plays James Brown. Some other actors and actresses are David Andrew Nash, Nelson Ellis, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. Tate Taylor is the director. Production companies are Imagine Entertainment, Jagged Films and Wyolah Films.

Some other Rhythm and Blues artists are Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and The Temptations. The aforementioned may also qualify as Soul Singers. (Of course, all of these are performing artists.)

The billboards and posters depicting the Godfather of Soul is great art. Unintentionally, you may see these posters around Chicago except when they are Out of Sight. When you see them you may exclaim, “I Got the Feelin!’
