Uproot Wines from Napa Valley is targeting a new generation of wine drinkers by selling direct.

"We wanted to carve out the niche in the wine market,” said winemaker Greg Scheinfeld. “So, we looked at new generation of e-commerce companies and decided to go direct to the consumer and allowing our Howell Mountain appellation wines to take the front stage.”

Launched in 2013, he and business partner Jay Levy wanted customer service to come first. They make their exceptional wine in small batches and sell online without a “middle man.”

The grapes are sourced by the acre from local vineyards with low quantity and great fruit. The wine portfolio include sauvignon blanc, grenache, grenache blanc and cabernet sauvignon.

Their flagship wine is a very impressive, muscular 2011 cabernet ($78). The founders admits it was a slow process at first but they are revving up production now.

“How do you make a standout cab among the gazillion others in Napa?” Levy and Scheinfeld said. “If you’re ‘Uproot’ you say yes to that challenge. Our debut red is classic cabernet with a chocolate covered cherry on top.”

In reality, the brooding selection is raspberry scented with cherry, blackberry, tobacco with a dark chocolate finish.

Uproot Wines can be purchased at amazon.com and at the company’s website.
