Tell us a little bit about your writing and educational background

Mr. Cohen: I attended Herbert H. Lehman College of CUNY, graduating in 1978 with a B.A. in Economics. I minored in English and spent two semesters writing for the school newspaper. After graduating, I spent nearly 25 years working for a large corporation but began writing in my spare time around 2002. I decided to pursue a career in writing after my first two books were published in 2004. Since that time, I have succeeded in getting another seven books published, with another two scheduled to be released in 2014. I also previously spent a considerable amount of time writing for

What is your book about?

Mr. Cohen: The 50 Greatest Players in New York Yankees History examines the careers of the 50 men who made the greatest impact on the most successful franchise in the history of professional sports. Using as measuring sticks the degree to which they impacted the fortunes of the team, the extent to which they added to the Yankee legacy of greatness, and the levels of statistical compilation and overall dominance they attained while wearing the Yankee pinstripes, The 50 Greatest Players In New York Yankees History ranks, from 1 to 50, the top 50 players in team history. Quotes from opposing players and former teammates are provided along the way, as are summaries of each player’s greatest season, most memorable performances, and most notable achievements.

Why should readers read your book?

Mr. Cohen: Although anyone who appreciates baseball history is likely to find this book extremely interesting, it is geared primarily to Yankee fans. Since the names of most of the players included in this work are familiar to the vast majority of people who follow the team, the book is likely to have widespread appeal to fans from all generations. Additionally, with iconic figures such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly, and Derek Jeter, heading the list, the rankings are certain to inspire a great deal of controversy and debate.

Did you have any obstacles while writing this book? If so, what were they?

Mr. Cohen: No real obstacles…just a great deal of research. Probably the biggest obstacle I faced was finding suitable pictures to incorporate into the book’s photo spread.

Is this the first book you have ever had published? If not, please share with us what other books you have previously had published.

Mr. Cohen: In addition to this book, I have had the following works published:

A Team For The Ages: Baseball’s All-Time All-Star Team (2004)

The Lean Years of the Yankees: 1965-1975 (2004)

My Life With Rusty (2008)

Baseball’s Hall of Fame – Or Hall of Shame? (2009)

MVP (2010)

The 50 Most Dynamic Duos in Sports History (2012)

Pro Basketball’s All-Time All-Stars: Across The Eras (2013)

The 50 Greatest Players in St. Louis Cardinals History (2013)

Are you working on any projects right now?

Mr. Cohen: I have two additional books that are scheduled to be released in 2014. The first is entitled The 50 Greatest Players in New York Giants Football History. That work is almost complete – I need only to update the information at season’s end for the few currently active players who made my list. I am also currently working on The 50 Greatest Players in Boston Red Sox History. I expect to have that work completed before the end of this year.

What is your advice for writers wanting to turn authors out there?

Mr. Cohen: I would advise them to pick a subject that they are passionate about because their passion will come through in their writing. I would also tell them that they need to be persistent and have thick skin because they likely will have to experience a considerable amount of rejection before they succeed.

What made you become a writer?

Mr. Cohen: I always enjoyed writing, particularly about sports. I feel that writing brings out my creative side and allows me to share my thoughts and feelings with others.

Who is your favorite author and why?

Mr. Cohen: I have two favorite authors. The first is John Gray, who authored the Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus series of books. I also enjoy reading David Halberstam, whose book October 1964 probably influenced my writing style more than any other.

Where can we find you?

Mr. Cohen: You can find all my books on Amazon and Barnes& by doing an author search on my name (Robert W Cohen). My books MVP, Baseball’s Hall of Fame – Or Hall of Shame? and The 50 Greatest Players in New York Yankees History are also available in bookstores. I, personally, live in northern New Jersey. I also have an account on Facebook through which I can be reached.
