Last time on "Get To Know Savannah", we explored some of how Savannah's major areas and neighborhoods are split up. Today, it's time to visit with Pooler.
Pooler isn't quite as diverse as Savannah. By "diverse" I mean simply that the neighborhoods aren't quite so varied as Savannah's are. You won't find areas like Midtown or Southside. What you'll mainly get are North Pooler, South Pooler, and Bloomingdale instead. Most of Pooler lies west of I-95, with North Pooler being closer to Effingham County, South Pooler being closer to Southside Savannah and Richmond Hill/Bryan County, and Bloomingdale being somewhere in between AND west of those sections of Pooler. Now, to be technical, Bloomingdale really is its own city, however it is part of Chatham County, and I've decided for the sake of educational purposes to go ahead and add it into this article.
So, what's North Pooler all about? Well, for one thing, when people say "I'm going to see a movie in Pooler tonight," or "I'm going to dinner in Pooler tonight," they're probably talking about going to North Pooler, as that's where all the shopping and restaurants are at. Many people live in Pooler and commute to Savannah or Richmond Hill for work every day. As a result, more and more businesses are building in Pooler, and the fact that so many of these businesses still have that brand new shine on them, makes Pooler a very attractive area to live for someone who's not interested in experiencing any Savannah traffic. With a few movie theaters, grocery stores, and many well known chain and local restaurants, there's plenty to in Pooler if you're on a date or just want to go grab a bite to eat. The distance isn't bad, either, as everything's conveniently located near the airport, which means fast highway access.
North Pooler neighborhoods consist of Godley Station, Hunt Club, and many other situated near I-95, and have many newer homes, along with new construction homes just waiting for buyers to pick a wall color, carpet type, and granite counter top.
South Pooler is more residential, with fast access via I-95 (noticing a theme?) to get to Southside Savannah and West Chatham's areas like Bradley Point South and Berwick. Everything is still just as easily accessible, and for anybody interested in visiting Richmond Hill, you're just a short drive down 17 South or I-95 South, and you're there. Interested in new construction in South Pooler? Mungo Homes has you covered in the neighborhoods Somersby, Highland Falls, and in Westbrook at Savannah Quarters, and come very highly recommended by homebuyers with great construction and even greater reviews.
Bloomingdale is a bit of a different animal from Pooler altogether, as that's where you want to go when you want a home that's relatively close to town, but at the expense of commute time, you don't want any neighbors close by. Every buyer I've encountered that wants land goes to one of two places Effingham County (which won't be covered in this guide), and Bloomingdale. The homes in Bloomingdale are going to be closer in age to some of the older homes in Savannah, but then you're also going to have much more yard with play with. Some residents consider Bloomingdale "out in the country," and while I don't think it's quite "middle-of-nowhere" it is definitely for those who want privacy. If you're looking for subdivisions or a neighborhood with an HOA, you won't find that here.
That's a basic rundown of Pooler and Bloomingdale, next time I'll give you an idea of Richmond Hill.
