Loyal reader, I am here for you. After writing a feature about a recent OC Music Awards showcase, one reader wrote, "I would like to know more about I Hate You Just Kidding. I heard them perform at the OC Music Awards Best Live Acoustic show at Gypsy Den and really felt their vibe." Ask and you shall receive. Ladies and gentlemen...I Hate You Just Kidding.

Complete the sentence. I Hate You Just Kidding is...

The name of Jessi & Jeremy's band! It's also a line of dialog from an episode of Home Movies.

What inspires you to write?

Birds, dreams, things that fascinate, things of the past, plans for the future, and watching cartoons.

You have been nominated for 2 OC Music Awards. What does that mean to you?

I imagine it's a pretty cool feeling being nominated for anything at all; the fact we've been nominated for Best New Artist and Best Folk in our first year together is a huge accomplishment for us. The OCMAs are a great way to start out the year and should create a lot of momentum for our west coast tour (at the end of March) and for the rest of the year.

If you could have a drink and a conversation about music with anyone, who would you choose? Why?

Leonard Cohen. He's the perfect example of songwriting at its best, and we're pretty sure he knows everything. We'd meet inside a Coltrane-inspired jazz lounge. Cohen orders the drinks and we're all having Canadian Club.

If you could tour with any artist, who would it be? Why?

Vetiver. In our opinion, they are the best folk band of our generation. Exceptional guitar playing - accompanied by ultra smooth vocals - ties the 70's style songwriting together in a way that simultaneously inspires you while making you want to quit writing music and take up another profession.

What would you be doing if you weren't making music?

Jeremy: well Jessi would be done with school by now, probably with her MD in TCOB (taking care of business) but still making minimum wage working at a coffee shop.
Jessi: and Jeremy would be a part-time model and an elementary school soccer coach. Both of us would be wishing we were making music.

The OC Music Awards ceremony is on 6 March at The Grove of Anaheim. Get your tickets and see if this band wins in either or both categories in which it is nominated.

Know a band you'd like to see featured? Let me know about it.
