The chill of fall is setting in and familiar sentimental feelings are rising up. It is almost that time of year for traditions, holidays, celebrations and cold-weather. And while summer used to be the prime season for outdoor adventure, there is a new attraction coming to town that is sure to cure everyone’s indoor winter blues.
On November 25, Cardinal Stadium at the Kentucky Exposition Center will transform into Snow Ball Park, an outdoor winter wonderland featuring snow-tubing, a snow maze, snowmen, ice sculpting and an abundance of other fun winter activities. The park hopes to be a welcome change for cold-weather entertainment-seekers.
Rick Madden, operator of Snow Ball Park, said that the idea for the park began percolating about 3 years ago, when he was brainstorming ways to revitalize historic ballparks.
“People can choose to go anywhere and tube, but they won’t find a setting like this, with the entertainment that our scoreboard groups provide, the Christmas lights on the field; it’s just a completely unique entertainment option,” said Madden.
Snow Magic operates seven similar attractions in the United States including Snow Days at Cleveland’s Progressive Field as well as some in Saudi Arabia and Japan. They also recently operated “Snow!” at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tenn. Unlike traditional snowmaking equipment that works only at temperatures significantly below 32F, the Snow Magic system utilizes a patented Infinite Crystals Snowmaking system that works in any temperature by freezing water to create tiny snow crystals regardless of the ambient temperature.
Sledding tubes will be provided for customers for two-hour sessions for use on an 8-lane tubing hill in the center of the stadium. The park will offer music, dancing, dinner, drinks and concessions and will also have private settings and catering for corporate events, birthday parties, holiday events and school fundraisers.
Snow Ball Park hours vary by date. Ticket prices for the inaugural season of Snow Ball Park vary by session. Sessions run: 12-2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m., 6-8 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. For information on ticket prices, park hours and more, visit the Kentucky Exposition Center’s Website.
