Yoga is a personal practice that is best done at your own pace and comfort level. Spending time alone on your mat is enough, however, adding props can deepen your practice and get you into poses that you otherwise might not feel comfortable in. Try adding these props to your routine to deepen your practice and further relax your body and mind.
Rectangular bolster - Place the bolster under your torso during Child's Pose for deeper relaxation. Try sitting on it to open your hips while in half or full lotus. Position under the knees during Savasana to relieve pressure on the lower back.
Meditation chair - It can be difficult to find a comfortable position to maintain during meditation. Sitting with the legs crossed can put pressure on the hips and back, while lying down often leads to sleep. Use a meditation chair to find that happy medium. The pillow seat is a comfortable place to sit and the back support will keep you upright allowing you to clear your mind and relax into a deeper meditative state.
Eye pillow - After relaxing into Savasana place this small pillow across your eyes. It blocks out light and provides just enough pressure to the eye area that they relax even further. Pick your choice of silk or cotton, or try the lavender scented for an extra soothing experience.
Yoga jellies - These discs provide cushioning for your elbows and hands during inversions, for your knees during kneeling poses, and for your glutes and heels during seated poses. They are great for on-the-go practices so pack them with your yoga mat on your next trip.
