The Country Music Marathon kicks off April 26, 2014 in downtown Nashville. This year’s event takes the runners on a different route from previous years. Runners are able to enter the full-marathon or the half-marathon but new this year is the option for the 5K entry. This year the starting line for the race is right in the heart of the Honky-Tonks on Broadway and will weave around the city. Throughout the race route, runners will hear some of the best musicians in Nashville with concerts at every mile marker.
The Marathon assists in raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. The hospital allows children full cancer treatment at no cost to their families. The hospital takes a minimum of 1.9 million dollars per day to provide services to those that are currently receiving treatment and research.
After the race on Saturday, runners can attend the concert at the Bridgestone Arena and hear some of the cast members of ABC TV’s ‘Nashville’ perform some of the hits from their show. Performing that night from ‘Nashville’ will be Charles Esten ‘Deaon’, Clare Bowen ‘Scarlett’ and Chris Carmack ‘Will’; country newcomer Chase Rice opening the show. Non-runners and guests can also enjoy the concert for a fee of $35 to attend.
