It’s holiday time at the San Diego Zoo; Jungle Bells is presented by Donkey Kong, and is a three-week wintery celebration. Guests can take part in many different all-new holiday activities including holiday-themed animal experiences, entertainment and a nightly tree lighting ceremony.
The holiday-themed animal experiences include a special evening animal show that will be taking place in the Wegeforth Bowl, which is located inside the Zoo, every night at 6:30 p.m. Guests get the chance to see critters up close and personal in this holiday show. There will also be a rhino keeper talk and a wolf keeper talk, where guest are given the chance to see the animals up close, they will also be able to speak with and ask the keepers any questions.
When night falls – the Zoo is transformed, sparkly holiday lights and sculptures. One was to appreciate the lights is to take the Twinkle Light Trolley, which costs $3 for adults, $2 for children, and a tractor-pulled trolley that takes guests around a part of the zoo that has great lights.
This year there is a new Santa photo experience. Guests can meet Santa during Jungle Bells and get a souvenir photo taken.
Seasonal holiday treats will be served in participating Zoo restaurants; including holiday cookies, hot chocolate, coffee with liqueur, s'mores, fried apple and cherry pies, and specialty soups. The treats must be purchased from the participating restaurants.
Jungle Bells which runs from Dec. 14 through Jan. 5. and the Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. during Jungle Bells with the exception of Dec. 24, when the Zoo closes at 5 p.m. Most of the Jungle Bells activities happen between 4 and 8 p.m.
