With many of the fall primetime shows having already ended, cable networks are gearing up for their summer lineup of dramatic programming and TNT is among those leading the pack. Beginning June 9, TNT will air “Murder in the First,” a detective drama series coming from television veteran Steven Bochco, the man who gave us “Hill Street Blues,” “LA Law” and “NYPD Blue.” Bochco has a proven track record for creating hit shows.
The police procedural will star Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson who play San Francisco homicide detectives Terry English and Hildy Mulligan. Aside from one dealing with an ailing spouse and the other dealing with the trials of being a single mom, the pair will be concentrating on one lone murder case the entire season. Remember AMC’s “The Killing?” However, the guilty culprit on this show is supposed to be apprehended and tried before season’s end.
The murdered victim, Cindy Strauss, is an apparent drug addict who had ties to Silicon Valley’s young billionaire Erich Blunt (“Harry Potter” alum Tom Felton). Other cast members include: Steven Webber as Blunt’s friend and pilot, Ari Nicole Parker as District Attorney Sonia Perez and guest star Ann-Marie Johnson who plays Diggs’ terminally ill wife Emily. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of “Murder in the First” which will air June 9 at 10:00 PM following the third season premiere of “Major Crimes.”
