The 2014 Florida Grammy Showcase is Wednesday, April 23 at Firestone Live in downtown Orlando. This showcase, presented by The Recording Academy’s Florida Chapter, serves as the official Florida Music Festival (FMF) kickoff event, taking place the night before the FMF begins on Thursday, April 24.
Music fans and music industry executives will be treated to live performances from Orlando bands Tayler Buono, Good Luck Penny, Carly Jo Jackson and The Cold Start as well as Central Florida’s Geri X and Variance as they vie for the coveted artist development prize packages. The $25,000 prize packages include recording time, music gear and more.
These six artists were the finalists chosen by the academy officials over all the eligible entrants from Florida and Puerto Rico. “I am so honored to be selected for this showcase in my hometown,” said singer/songwriter Carly Jo Jackson. “I am mostly performing in South Florida now and I am ready to come to Orlando and give a show to remember!”
Orlando based band The Cold Start had this to say about the upcoming show, “We are excited to have been asked. We got a phone call while we were on tour from the organizers and they asked if we were available to perform. It was completely unexpected and we are proud to be a part of it with such a good group of other extremely talented showcasing artists.”
“Just to be associated with the recording academy is, in itself, quite an honor,” added the band. “The fact that it is the opening night of the Florida Music Festival, that we are also playing the following day, is an added bonus. We have no idea what to expect, but are sure its going to be great to meet new people from this crazy industry we are trying to make our way in.”
The event starts at 7 p.m. with a pre-show reception and DJ performance from M-Squared followed by the live music showcase hosted by Supa Dave of WJRR at 8 p.m. Admission is free for this 18+ event. Firestone Live is located at 578 N. Orange Ave. in downtown Orlando.
