FPJ Consulting, the MLK Celebration Committee, and Urban Promotions presents the Historically Black College & University (HBCU) Experience and College Fair Sunday January 19, 2014 at Williston Middle School Gymnasium in Wilmington, NC. The HBCU Experience is an activity that will highlight the excitement of college life and will give families the opportunity to speak directly with college admission counselors starting at 4:00pm.
The event will consist of the college tradition, “Battle of the Bands” between Elizabeth City State University “Sound of Class” and Saint Augustine's University “Superior Sound” marching bands. There will also be cheerleaders from the universities and local performers.
The “HBCU Experience” in the Wilmington area will combat the negativity and display the dedication and positive support from the community. We are expecting an audience of over 900 people to attend this event. The impact of this event will go far beyond this one day as students and families will be affected for a lifetime.
The event will be a great opportunity for Wilmington, NC, as many of our youth in the area have not had the opportunity to look into the daily life of a college student. This event will generate the hope that the city strives to regain with its youth and motivate the community in a very unique manner.
The HBCU Experience is part of the MLK Celebration Committee scheduled events. Doors will open at 3:00 pm, event begins at 4:00 pm. Advance tickets are $5.00, Day of the event tickets are $7.00.
