Before you head to the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair and indulge your appetite in vast quantities of fair food, you might want to get in a little exercise. Lucky for you, it doesn’t get more convenient than this.
The Manhattan Beach 10K Run takes place Saturday, October 5, starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. and finishes just in time for the opening of the 41 Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair.
The 10K Run was founded in 1978 by a group of local runners who wanted to have a race ‘in town’ and has always been a partnership between the City of Manhattan Beach and the Race Committee. This partnership allows the race to stay true to its original concept as a community event.
The course winds its way through the heart of Manhattan Beach with the final stretch taking participants along the ocean front Strand.
There are two ways to register: online at http://www.active.com/running/manhattan-beach-ca/36th-annual-manhattan-beach-10k-2013 or in person at the Village Runner store located at 1840 North Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach.
Proceeds from the event are returned to the community in the form of scholarships to high school seniors living in Manhattan Beach and to various enhancements to the recreation facilities of local schools and parks. Over the years, the Hometown 10k has made donations back to the community in excess of $250,000!
The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair is a separate event from the Manhattan Beach 10K Run and does not provide shuttle service for parking on race morning.
