Get ready for Halloween: Crochet a lost souls skull shawl

Crochet Lost Souls Skull Shawl
Lynda Altman

Believe it or not, Halloween is just a few months away. It is time to start on your holiday crochet. For starters, why not crochet up a wonderful shawl that can be worn anytime, but the skull pattern is just right for Halloween. The beauty of this particular shawl is that it is crocheted from the bottom up to form a large triangle. You can stop the pattern anytime the size suits you. The complete pattern continues for 98 rounds. It is a free pattern.

The Lost Souls Skull Shawl by Maryetta Roy, is crocheted using Caron Simply Soft yarn. Maryetta Roy used Heather, but any color would be stunning. Because there is no gauge, you can easily change the yarn weight and still get a great shawl. Use the Caron yarn for an all-season wrap. Lighter weight yarn, especially those with metallic threads, can be used to dress up the shawl for evening or special events. A chunky yarn will make quick work of this wrap and make it suitable for cold weather. It is a free pattern found on If you are not a member, you will be asked to join before you can download. This pattern requires an intermediate crochet skills set. You should know how to create a magic ring. Single crochet, double crochet, and half-double crochet stitches are used. The skulls are created using a shell pattern. A size H/8/5 mm hook is used, but you should adjust the hook size to match the yarn weight. If you tend to crochet tighter or looser than most pattern gauges, then make similar adjustments to this pattern.
