For those in the fashion industry, the only thing that’s more exciting than watching the 2014 New York Fall/Winter collections at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) on live stream is to actually be there. Beginning tomorrow and for the next eight days, I will be posting a series of articles on the various shows and activities from Lincoln Center in New York City. As usual this is a fantastic semi-annual event that showcases the works of both established and emerging designers. From the well known such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenburg and Tory Burch to the emerging designers such as Desigual, Concept Korea and Cutecircuit, they will all be on hand to show the fashion world their latest creations.
Being a couture designer myself, along with a Bachelor of Science in Apparel, Textiles and Design, I expect that my reporting will focus more on the fabrics, colors, and technical design aspects of fashion rather than the social. My goal is that I want to make these articles useful to those on the "business" end of the fashion and design industry. However, I will do my best to provide a combination of both.
The trip to New York was a bit slow, as the train was delayed due to the weather. However, I did manage to make it to New York, and it appears that the storm has passed. After getting settled in the hotel, I had just enough time to run and get the schedule and my credentials. So I am ready for the flurry of activities to begin tomorrow. While it is not exactly going to be warm, it is expected to be partly sunny. So, I am happy that at least I won’t be heading to Lincoln Center in a blizzard.
Stay tuned for more.
