With The Fault In Our Stars making theater aisles run wet with tears, another tail of young love marred by a health crisis is on the way. Chloe Moretz stars in If I Stay, based on Gayle Forman's best-selling book that is generally regarded as a cut above the rest of the YA field. So should we go ahead and order up an extra box of Kleenex for this? Sure looks like it.
A new "prologue trailer" (Is this a thing now?) for the film has been released, and it looks like a definite weeper. Moretz stars as Mia Hall, a musical prodigy trying to decide whether to pursue her dreams and attend Juilliard, or pursue a different life with the guy of her dreams. When a terrible accident leaves Mia in a coma, she has an out-of-body experience and must decide whether to soldier on or give up and die. Fun stuff.
Directed by R.J. Cutler with Jamie Blackley, Joshua Leonard, Mireille Enos, Stacy Keach, and Liana Liberato co-starring, If I Stay opens August 22nd.
