Comedian Bobby Hacker's biggest hit was undoubtedly "Cars", the viral clip that featured a used car dealer demanding that you "get our your f-cking checkbook". The clip was so popular that it spawned two sequels, one of which was a full-blown film titled Cars 3. Little has been heard about Cars 3 in the years since the first "Cars" arrived, but we've just received an update on the film from Hacker himself. Read on for the best news we've heard this month, my gentle Examiner readers...
Even if you're not intimately familiar with the name Bobby Hacker, there's a good chance you've seen one of the dude's videos. "Cars", for instance. That's the one that features a coked-up used car salesman (and his possibly-demonic, nunchuck-weilding son, Timothy) demanding that you "get our your f-cking checkbook" just before a baby appears to explode on-camera. Oh, you haven't seen that one yet? We've helpfully embedded it over there on the left for you, along with the clip's sequel. Be forewarned that it contains naughty language and a wildly disturbing puppet.
Over the past few years, "Cars" has been seen several million times online. It spawned a sequel, "Cars 2: All Out Cars", and even led to Cars 3, an actual film based on the characters that appeared in "Cars". The film screened a couple years back-- at an event hosted by Patton Oswalt-- and the word that came out of that screening was that Hacker had made something incredibly unique, wildly disturbing, and utterly hilarious. This led to a few promises about Cars 3 finding its way online for purchase, but then...radio silence. For the past two years or so, Cars 3 was missing in action.
For whatever reason, I was thinking about the original "Cars" when I woke up this morning (must've had some particularly nasty dreams last night), and after watching the clip online for the umpteenth time, I dropped Hacker a line on Facebook asking after Cars 3. Had the film ever been released? Was there any chance that-- if it hadn't been-- I could get my hands on a copy of the film? Here's what Hacker sent back in response:
SO F-CKING FUNNY THAT YOU WROTE ME TODAY. I just sold a new cut of the film to TROMA along with a bunch of other shorts for a DVD to be released in AUG. Funny part being that everything was finalized just a few min ago...I guess it's a movie now?
That's right, suckers: Cars 3 is getting a release thanks to Troma.
That bears repeating: Bobby Hacker's Cars 3 is getting released. On DVD. So you can watch it. With a bunch of Hacker's other shorts. After two years, a bajillion downloads, and a whole lot of confusion, it's finally going to happen. Stay tuned for more on this one as it becomes available (including an interview with Hacker and some other Cars 3-related shenanigans), folks, and in the meantime, get caught up on the Cars series by checking out the first two videos over there on the left. You can also check out the rest of Hacker's videos over at THIS, his YouTube page.
