Many of us missed the Second Saturday Art Walk due to the snow and icy conditions Saturday night. You do not want to miss the Nudes Downtown, 2014 Exhibit though. Treat yourself to a walking tour of the downtown venues, and enjoy some excellent art.
For the past few months I have been helping coordinate the 4th Annual Astoria Nudes Downtown, 2014 Exhibit. Having seen photographs of all the art before it went on display, I was looking forward to seeing the art up close. Today as I walked from gallery to gallery around downtown Astoria, I found some wonderful, surprising, and breathtaking artwork. If you have not yet had the time to take in the Nudes Downtown Exhibit, I encourage you to get out during the next few weeks (exhibit ends March 4) to see what the galleries and venues have chosen to exhibit, and to see the work of some very fine artists.
Accompanied by my Artist-in-Residence friend, Lisa Ackerman, I began at Clemente’s Restaurant where artist and printmaker, Jamie Boyd has hung this year’s Nudes Downtown Art. Clemente’s is one of the finest venues of this exhibit. The Lightbox Photographic Gallery has an photographic show underway and is also part of the Nudes Downtown, 2014. You won’t want to miss the works of Michael Puff and other artists’ whose photography is on exhibit.
Imogen Gallery is where I had my first big surprise, when I saw Kerri Warner’s work and Jo Ellen Rademacher's mixed media pieces. Both artists' work is intriguing and captivating. Both pieces reminded me how important it is to see art first hand. No photograph can do these works justice.
RiverSea has a really nice nudes exhibit as well. Lea McCombs Material Girls is another larger than life fiber art piece that must be seen to be fully appreciated. I enjoyed being in her presence. Robert Paulmenn’s fine work is on display and is Anna Kodesch, and Sagan Newman’s work.
Old Town Framing Company has some fine work as well. Timur Ayupov’s strikingly beautiful piece of work is the centerpiece of Old Town’s nude exhibit. Vicki Baker, Richard Bulman, Sandi Ludescher, and Jeff Black’s art rounds out the exhibit nicely.
Tempo Gallery and In-D-Hair Gallery are also featuring works as part of Nudes Downtown.
Take some time to visit the galleries and venues before March 4, and see for yourself some of the fine work
