Fun at the preserve! photo by pas
The weather is finally beginning to cooperate - instead of dumping more snow on us, it is going to melt.
This means it is the perfect time to get out to the local forest preserve and stretch your legs.
Try the Poplar Creek preserve as it is not as busy as Busse Woods. There is a lake to enjoy and miles of trails to explore. Not to mention all the other wildlife that your pup will have fun sniffing out! It is also a very popular spot for dogs. Yes, there are bicyclists, runners, walkers and birders. But as long as you have control of your dog (leashed at all times!) everyone gets along just fine.
Parking is widely available, and a favorite place for pets is at the Bode Lake lot, accessed off of Bode Road. Check map link above for more details.
While there are water taps at the preserve, it is best to bring your own for both you and your pooch. Make a day of it - bring friends or family and get everyone outside. The calendar may not say it is spring, but it sure will feel like it this weekend. You also might want to bring a towel or blanket to clean up a bit before returning home. After all, playing can be dirty work!
