In 2008 Minx nails were created. It was a stylish, savvy and fashionable way to adorn finger and toenails without buffing and stripping the natural nail. In 2009 Minx hit the red carpet, creating a buzz when celebrities such as Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson paraded this stylish nail art for the paparazzi. What is Minx? Minx Nails is a film with an adhesive on the back. Heat is used to adhere the film to the nail and conforms Minx to the intricacies of the natural nail. The film comes in an multitude of designs such as paisleys, dots, checkers, dragons and a slew of others are available.
Within in the last year the trend has really taken off and is now a nail technique that can be found in many salons. It has recently made it's way to the Chicago area and although some salons are using this technique Khalilah from the Ultimate Arch Salon in Country Club Hills, IL has been a Minx practitioner for nearly a year. She began practicing on family and moved up to doing her clients. Her clients have recently included brides-to-be and entire bridal parties.
Application for nails is an average time of 30-45 minutes for fingernails and 45 minutes to an hour for toenails. Minx can be placed over acrylics but Khalilah did not recommend this. From experience she stated Minx nail film adheres much better to the natural nail and does take a quite a bit longer to apply over an acrylic. Purchasing the Minx kits can be done via the website but you must be a Minx Certified Technician to order kits and supplies. These items have been found on E-bay but Khalilah in no way recommends purchasing the product on E-bay since it are not guaranteed by the company.
For brides-to-be who love the look of lush nails but don't like acrylics or polishes this is a great technique for you. Minx can be applied to match the theme of your wedding or create a vibrant, stylish look for the reception.
