Get fit on the Mississippi River Levee Bicycle Path (Photos)

Bikers, walkers and joggers in the Baton Rouge area can take advantage of the Mississippi River Levee Bicycle Path that starts at the downtown district near the USS Kidd and south just past Skip Bertman Drive near LSU’s campus. The path is well lit and spacious enough for groups.

The path follows River Road south out of Baton Rouge. Parking can be found in pay spots in the downtown area near the Kidd, under River Bridge or at the intersection of the River Road and Skip Bertman Drive (during non-school hours). The path sits atop the levee and offers foot travelers great views of the downtown area, the USS Kidd, Tiger Stadium and river traffic along the Mighty Mississippi.

  • Want to amp up the workout? Run the levees from the base up or the concrete stadium steps near the USS Kidd.
  • After a good workout, kick back and cool down at the Pastime Lounge near the bridge parking lot. The Pastime Lounge has some of the best pizzas and calzones in town, ice cold drinks and a respectable LSU sports history in photos. It’s a great place to wind down after a good workout.
  • Interested in other sites to visit? Try the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, Old State Capitol Museum, the Louisiana State Capitol.
  • Need an exciting overnight experience? Check in to the new L'Auberge Casino just down the River Road from the bike path.
