Celebrate African Dance at Sofa Saturday with Oneaka Dance Company at the Harvey B Gantt Center on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:30 am. There will be a series of interactive workshops on the dance and culture. RSVP is required through Gantt’s website. The cost is $5 for non- Gantt Center members.
Saturday, March 24, 2012 is the last night to see RACE at the Carolina Actors Studio Theatre. This play, written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet follows two attorneys who get caught up trying to save the reputation, name and life of a world-famous billionaire involved in a racially motivated rape case. Enjoy an eclectic blend of gospel, country, blues, rock, soul and hip hop as two musical groups perform Saturday night at the Double Door Inn in Charlotte. Delta Rae, a harmonic group from Durham, NC will be performing along with Dark Water Rising from Robeson County. The show starts at 9:30 pm. Tickets are $12 and doors open at 9pm. Then on Sunday, March 25, 2012, UNC Charlotte is showing the film My Joy, a story of a truck driver who’s in a tussle to survive violent reminders of times past after taking a wrong turn and getting lost in a Russian underworld. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. The showing is at 2 pm at UNC Charlotte Center City Building located at 320 East 9th Street.
