Just as their larger sorority, who since their inception on Jaunary 13, 1913 is grounded in providing the greater community with access to resources grounded in academic excellence and providing assistance to those in need, the Henry County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continues to build upon this tradition of excellence for those in their servicing area and community. Just as notable members such as Dr. Dorothy Height, Barbara Jordan, Shirley Chisholm, and Patricia Roberts Harris made notable contributions grounded in the motto of "Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom", the chapter's social and community-based programs and initiatives are firmly entrenched in making such a motto a living testament to their focus and dedication to the uplift and empowerment of the community.
On Friday, October 21st, the chapter is taking a creative approach to uplift and empowerment in the form of their Crimson Culture event. Taking place at the Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery (199 Armour Drive) at 8pm, the creative and performing arts-based not only allows attendees to be more immersed within the world of art, but also lend support to the chapter's larger community-based programs.
Poet and artist Hank Stewart, along with the jazz and soul-influenced melodies of the Infinity Band, are part of the highlights of the evening. Artwork by local artists Kevin Williams, Sydney Carter, Andre Thompson, Melanie Dunbar, along with pieces by House of Adrene's Adrene Howard and the chapter's very own Simone Morton, are among the featured items for display. As an added bonus, tickets to the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain Park, the Fox Theater, are among the featured items as part of the silent auction portion of the event.
Tickets are $25 per person in advance, and $30 at the door. For information on ticket purchases and other details, make sure to contact Erica Smith (phone: 404-210-2566 or email: crimsonculture@hcacdst.org).
Since December 4, 2004, the Henry County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a strong tradition of enriching and empowering the lives of those in their servicing area. Next Saturday's event is shaping up as being another example of their commitment to lead and serve others in a creative and innovative way that is representative of their chapter, as well as that of others affiliated with their larger organization and its 98 year history of leadership and service.
