I-65 S/7 hrs 15 mins / 469.11 miles/Est. Fuel Cost $81.03
Take the Megabus all the way to New Orleans (NOLA). Leave from the Atlanta Civic Center via Marta (rapid transit) and you will be in NOLA in 8hours for $22. Once you get to New Orleans you will not need a rental car or transportation. I cannot stress enough to take a coat or sleeping bag so that you will be warm and comfy on the bus and able to sleep all night and wake up refreshed in New Orleans. Stay at the Hotel Monteleon for $232 a night for a real New Orleans experience or go for a budget hotel like The French Market Inn (French Quarter) for $106 per night. New Oleans is also a cruise port city for Carnival. So you can take a budget friendly cruise out of this port city as well. Atlanta now has flights offered by Southwest Airlines which has given competition in price to Delta and driven the airfare lower. We use to drive 2 hours to Birmingham to take $59 cheap flights to NOLA but now if you live in Atlanta you don’t have to do this.
