I'll admit, I was skeptical of the raw food movement, especially when I prefer all of my meals cooked (with the exception of sushi of course). But 118 degrees proved me wrong. The food is light, flavorful, and nearly entirely gluten-free.
118 Degrees serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has a variety of coffee/teas and desserts to choose from. If you are just looking for a small bite, the fresh smoothies and juices are a great pick me up. The Matcha Magic with green tea, agave, and almond butter or the Merry Monkey with banana, nut milk and vanilla are both great beverage options.
For breakfast, try the Amazon Fruit bowl or the Pineapple Sandwich which has banana, avocado, and strawberry stuffed between large slices of pineapple.
The lunch entrees are all about veggies, veggies, and more veggies. For a light bite, the Coconut Ceviche or Thai Spring Rolls are perfect options. The Lemon Pesto "Pasta" is made with thin zucchini strips, lemon pesto sauce, and mushrooms, and the Verde Tacos are wrapped in a cabbage leaf with pumpkin seed cheese, salsa, and peppitas. I know some of these combinations may sound a bit strange (I thought so too) but the flavors complement each other perfectly.
When it comes to dinner, the Florentine Lasagna is a must try with layers of Italian vegetables, ricotta, and marinara topped with portabello mushrooms or the Fajitas Plate with squash, mushrooms, and onions.
Last but not least, there's dessert. The Mango Vanilla Swirl or Green Tea Ice Cream are the perfect palate cleansers and a great way to end your meal.
While I'm not planning on turning into a raw food convert anytime soon (I still love a good piece of steak), 118 Degrees is a great place to grab a refreshing, healthy snack on the go, or a great meal where you know you are going to get at least half of the recommended daily amount of your fruits and veggies. If you are looking to try a raw food restaurant, 118 Degrees is the place to go.
