Over the past decade an increasing number of neuroscientists, licensed therapists and health professionals have documented the various health benefits of meditation. These benefits include, but are not limited to, stress reduction, decrease in blood pressure and boosted performance of the immune system. As time progresses, it seems that more and more findings point towards a holistic interrelated link between mental health, spirituality and physical health. 

Meditation may be a means to enhance that link as a consistent practice improves your mental well-being, spiritual connection and physical health. But even if you don't consider yourself to be spiritual, you can still take advantage of the mental and health benefits meditation provides.


If you live in Los Angeles and happen to have a free Friday night every so often, pay a visit to Self-Realization Fellowship's free two-hour group meditation. Meditation begins at 7:30pm. The first hour consists of a guided meditation, where a member of the center's staff periodically reads spiritual passages for contemplation and leads the group in affirmations. During the second hour, everyone meditates on their own. Chanting is also included throughout the 2 hours.

This rewarding experience allows for an opportunity to relax and get centered without the external distractions of everyday life. As Self-Realization Fellowship is a spiritual center, you may also appreciate the spiritual passages read and the chanting that occurs during the meditation. The center is located at 17190 Sunset Blvd in Pacific Palisades.
