Of course if people pay you with a credit card, PayPal does charge a very reasonable and competitive fee, with excellent prompt customer service where you can actually call and talk to a human, is very hard to beat.
As an alternative for shopping online, especially for digital goods there is the developing PayBox which can be found online @ the PayBox website. If you join now they are offering $25 free to try the service out. Keep in mind though that their $ denominations are not represented in USD or any other currency. It is an online virtual currency. But it can be used to buy things from select merchants.
