Get a clean start with Moondance Soaps at the Durham Farmers Market

This time of year everyone is making an attempt to keep promises to themselves:

Exercise more

Eat better

Lose weight

Learn something new...

Well here's something you may have missed. How is your skin fitness?

In this harsh, cold air our skin can take a real beating.

Quite often sunscreen is put on the back burner. (Even though we still need it).

The wind whips back and forth against us - and the atmosphere changes.

We may give little thought to what it does to the skin.

Put down the bottle and step away from the lotion for just a second.

It may be your soap!

After a very informative discussion with Paul at Moondance Soaps,

the difference between handmade soaps and commercial brands we are fond of using became very clear.

Quite often, large soap manufacturers also produce a myriad other skin products.

These soaps can be very harsh and not well balanced for our skin's ph.

This is intentional in many cases!

The surfacants (often detergents), used in these soaps are meant to be drying.

This is what prompts us to reach for the next "step" in the skincare regimen of far more expensive moisturizers.

Think about it. Its a tactic they've been using for years.

Well, welcome to the world of wholseome, naturally moisturizing soaps!

At Moondance, the main focus is on quality. Goat milk and fine cosmetic grade fragrances can be found in their soaps.

This is better than just glycerine soaps with essential oils and herbs. Those are fine, but.

Milk has long been known as wonderful for the skin.

Goat milk, however, is unique.

Here's why:

For one thing, the globules in goats milk stay suspended in solution more easily than cows milk.

What does that mean?

Topically, (externally) it may require less processing and additives to craft products and

give you more whole goodness straight from the source.

Also a brief listing of the health benefits of goats milk:

Calcium, the amino acid tryptophan (also found in turkey), protein, phosphorous, riboflavin (vitamin B2), and potassium.

No wonder most of the world drinks goat's milk instead of cow's milk!

Yet in the States, its still largely considered a specialty product.

Tsk, tsk.

So what does this mean for your skin?

Ladies and gents, its good news!

Remember that acne you had when you were going through your teens?

How about - dare I say it - "backne" or the breakouts of acne and skin disruptions on your body skin?

Of course, there are other causes of acne, such as stress, hormonal changes, and diet.

But, it has long been considered a remedy to use milk baths for skin problems of various types.

Particularly, the lactic acid in milk is a wonderful, effective and gentle cleanser.

Quite often people with even sensitive skin can use milk-based cleansers with good results.

Do try a 'patch' test first, however.

One thing to love about Moondance soaps is that they are not just pushy for a sale.

Just hover within a few feet.

You'll find yourself looking down at a soap sample

in a hand you didn't even recognize you had open.

They'll be the first to tell you to go home, try it, then come back..

(say next Saturday from 10am to 12pm).

If people have good quality products, they won't mind you trying it first to see what works for you.

What's new at Moondance? They still have some Gingersnap Cookie soaps left.

They also have the Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey soap back out now, which has been great for winter faces.

How about Patchouli scented soap? Or Lavender Oatmeal?

Honey flavored lip-balm anyone? (It doesn't strip your lips on purpose!)

Its not just for the ladies, there are a variety of  products for the fellas as well.

Shaving products, insect repellants, baby soaps....

Really, take a look at their website :

But no scams here! Just plain, honest goodness.

Happy Local Skincare!
