Scholastic is a fabulous resource for homeschoolers year-round, but this time of year they really step up their promotions in an attempt to lure us in.  This month's promotion is good even for Scholastic, though.

If you order $20 worth of merchandise from the Firefly, Lucky, SeeSaw or Arrow September catalog, you get 10 free books, plus $10 to use towards more books and 10x the usual bonus points (which can be redeemed for free books and teacher materials).

Scholastic books tend to be inexpensive anyway, so with this deal you can really walk away with a lot of books for barely any money.  Plus, shipping for book club orders over $20 is free to your home!

I ordered from the Lucky (grades 2-3) catalog this week and got my order in two days (UPS).  In our case, I spent $20 to purchase these books:

The Bad Kitty duo (two Bad Kitty illustrated chapter books)

100 Things You Should Know About Explorers

Scratch It!  Glow in the Dark

The Magic School Bus:  All About Senses

Then I used the $10 voucher to purchase the Usborne Illustrated Math Dictionary and received 10 free books including:

Punctuation Celebration

Bad Kitty Vs. Uncle Murray

Magic Treehouse #30 (Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve)

Volcanoes

Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew #21

Sir Cumference and All the King's Tens

...plus more.

My seven-year-old son read four chapter books the first afternoon of the order, and had read nearly every book by the evening (and some twice!).  He discovered some new series books he wants to find at the library and even his big sisters enjoyed reading the Bad Kitty books and some of the others.

We plan to order from other catalogs this week.

All homeschoolers are eligible to take part in Scholastic's teacher program and order from the book catalogs.  If you are not yet a member, call 1-800-SCHOLASTIC to sign up or visit Scholastic online.

You can also shop in person at Scholastic warehouse sales at special times throughout the year.  There are currently no warehouse sales running in Minnesota, but you can sign up here to be notified when they offer new ones.

Happy shopping!

Thanks for this -- it looks great. I followed the link you sent and after filling out all the forms got the response that they need to verify my (home) school info before I can place and order and their customer service will contact me by email. Harrumph. I hope it will be smooth sailing ...

Good evening :) I do first want to thank you so much for your articles- they are so informative and inspirational to me as a struggling homeschooling mom just getting the hang of things :)!!!!! I was just wondering if there was a certain code or something that you use when checking out or if it is just when you order with print catalogues that you get this amazing deal? I went to the online version of the Arrow magazine (my kids are 9-13) and I didn't see anything about the offer, but of course, it very well could be that I just went right past it :)
Again- thanks for the wonderful articles- they are awesome!

Thanks Renee! You'll need to register as a homeschooler and then you'll get catalogs for the grade ranges you sign up for. Request the September catalogs for these offers. You'll automatically get the freebies and extras as long as you order from the September catalogs. No codes are needed! Hope that helps.

    Hi Alicia-
I just wanted to tell you how much I have LOVED your homeschooling articles- they are always so informative and inspiring :) I did have a question though- is there a coupon code or something for this Scholastic deal? Does it have to be through the print catalogs? I just didn't see anything mentioning the offer, and I didn't know if I was looking in the wrong place :) If you could let me know- that would be most wonderful!!!
Again- thanks for all you do!!! You're amazing!

Still waiting to be able to place this order via Scholastic ... they are not making it easy. One has to wait for them to send a code, I think, but nothing of the sort has been forthcoming. Sigh.

Sorry Leslie! Yes, Scholastic can be frustrating to work with. If you call, it may be much easier. I've always had helpful, quick service on the phone from their reps. Once you're confirmed as a teacher things will be much easier in the future too! I hope it's worked out now.

me too :) They really aren't the easiest to work with so far are they? I emailed them today (after calling to see if that yielded any results) I will let you know if I hear anything!!! I hope this deal doesn't end this week!!! :)

Hi Alicia, How exactly did they confirm that you are a homeschooler? Thank you very much for this info!
