According to the Canadian Press, Travis Gerrits of Milton, Ontario won a gold medal on Sunday in a World Cup aerials competition in Beijing, China.

Gerrits posted a score of 126.70 points for his first ever gold medal at a World Cup aerials event. The gold medal could not come at a better time because Gerrits's performance came seven weeks from the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Chao Wu of China won the silver medal with a score of 124.89 followed by Zongyang Jia of China with a score of 96.53.

Gerrits's final performance included an excellent quadruple-twisting triple flip. According to the International Ski Federation website, the jump was the least difficult of all of the jumps executed in the final, but was the most perfect, as the Chinese aerialists struggled.

The next World Cup aerials competition will be on January 10 in Deer Valley, Utah with the men's aerials event at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi set for February 17.
