Komorowski's visit to Germany

Newly elected Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski made the German concentration camp, Sachsenhausen near Berlin one of his stops on his first official visit to Germany since the Polish election.

According to the Brandenburg Memorial Foundation, Sachenhausen at Oranienburg was unusual in that it stood in the middle of town on the main road to Berlin. Sturmabteilung stormtroopers took over an abandoned factory in the middle of town in Orienburg and converted it to a concentration camp on March 21st, 1933.

According to Getty,

"The Nazis imprisoned and murdered tens of thousands of political prisoners, Soviet prisoners-of-war, Jews and members of other minority groups at Sachsenhausen between 1936 and 1945. Komorowski is on his first official visit to Germany since winning recent Polish presidential elections."

Like the concentration camp at Auschwitz, the concentration camp Sachsenhausen at Oranienburg bears an “Arbeit Macht Frei” (Work makes you free.) sign.
