Germany II wins World Cup 4-man Bobsled in Calgary

The 2011-12 World Cup Bobsled season finished yesterday at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park.

A German team won the Gold medal, but it wasn't the top German team led by Maximilian Arndt, it was the second team led by Manuel Machata instead.

Machata, along with Marko Huebenbecker, Andreas Bredau and Christian Poser posted a time of 1:47.72 to beat the German I team piloted by Arndt and his teammates Jan Speer, Kevin Kuske and Martin Putze by 0.28 seconds.

The Russia I team of Alexsandr Zubkov, Philipp Egorov, Dmitry Trunenkov and Maxim Mokrousov finished third with a time of 1:48.13.

Canada I led by Lyndon Rush finished in fifth place.

It was Machata's second victory of the World Cup season as he successfully piloted Germany III to a World Cup win in La Plagne, France on December 11.

Machata finished third in the overall standings with 1574 points. Zubkov finished first and Arndt finished second.

The World Championships for the four-man bobsled takes place February 25 in Lake Placid, New York
