It was a scary night for a family in the Germantown area of Philadephia Monday night as police officers entered their Ashmead Street home and fired a single gun shot when the family pit bull barked according to NBC Philadelphia.com.
Bienvenido Gutierrez was awakened to several officers from the First Judicial Warrant Unit searching for Gutierrez' brother, Joshua. As Bienvenido tried to explain his brother had not lived at the home for six years, officers still entered to search the home.
Bienvenido stated he explained to the officers his three children aged seven, two, and ten months were asleep in a bedroom upstairs and one of the family's pit bulls was in the same room. With guns drawn, the officers ascended the stairs when the family's dog, Suzzie barked. At that moment, an officer fired a single shot. Fortunately no child or dog were hit.
"I think if they just would have let me grab my dog and grab my kids there would have been no shots fired," Gutierrez told NBC10 as his family stood outside their home around 3 in the morning."
Officials say they were acting on a good lead.
