German shepherd slated for destruction kidnapped by cop

Thor, a German shepherd who was scheduled for destruction on Wednesday afternoon, has been dog-napped by a police officer...make that a fake police officer.

According to Thursday's Copenhagen Post, someone impersonating a police officer walked into the Hestehavehus Hundepension kennel where Thor was being held, and left with him.

The dog-napping incident has spared the incarcerated dog, for the moment at least, from certain death.

Thor was impounded by officials in Denmark after an incident which took place last September.

On that September day, Thor was being walked by his owner, when another small dog stepped out from behind a container, and apparently startled him.

Thor, frightened, bit the small dog, who was later taken to a veterinarian for care.

The dog owners exchanged information and life, for the moment, continued on as normal.

Unfortunately for Thor, ten days later, the authorities arrived at his home and confiscated him for being a dangerous dog. Apparently, officials ruled that the injuries to the smaller dog, which were reported to the authorities by the veterinarian, were sufficient for them to rule that Thor should be destroyed.

Thor's life was in grave jeopardy until his disappearance from the kennel on Tuesday night.

Right now, nobody, aside from the dog-napper, is sure where Thor is.

Those who fought for Thor's life are likely chanting, "run Thor, run."
