Today marks the release of German rock band, famous for songs like “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” Scorpions latest project “MTV Unplugged” in 50 countries including the US. The audiovisual project is being sold in the US as a CD with the option of purchasing additional footage on DVD or Blu-Ray. Recorded over the course of two days last year, September 11 and September 12, at the Lycabettus Theater in Athens, Greece, the project contains their popular hits as well as five new tracks. As the project title implies, this was a collaborative venture between Scorpions and MTV’s “Unplugged” series. It was the first time MTV recorded the "Unplugged" show at an open-air venue. “MTV Unplugged” is available for purchase via iTunes and Amazon. Fans can also preview the music right now by streaming it on MSN’s Music Listening Booth and Last.fm. Last week, USA Today released a preview of Scorpions song “Holiday” that was recorded last September but not released in the final audiovisual project.

Scorpions have touring the globe for three years and counting on the Farewell Tour. To date, the tour has spanned 23 out of a total of 38 countries and resumes on March 7 in Madrid, Spain. It is their last and final tour as a band. Regarding their latest project “MTV Unplugged,” Allmusic.com wrote: “Despite the larger venue, the set still feels fairly personal, stripping away the bombast of the plugged-in version to reveal the emotions at the core of the band’s more upbeat numbers like ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ while adding a new level of simplicity to power ballads like 'Send Me an Angel.' With two discs of acoustic goodness, Scorpions fans are definitely going to want to check this out.”

Formed in 1965, Scorpions are one of the longest standing rock bands in history. Scorpions have released 18 studio albums and five live albums that have sold a total of over 75 million records worldwide. Those albums gave rise to rock classics “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “No One Like You,” and “Wind of Change.” In 2010, Scorpions had their handprints forever memorialized in concrete when they were honored as inductees into Guitar Center’s Hollywood RockWalk. The current Scorpions band members are Klause Meine (vocals/guitar), Rudolf Schenker (guitar/vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Pawel Maciwoda (bass), and James Kottak (drums). For the “MTV Unplugged” project, musicians/producers Mikael Nord Andersson (guitars, mandolin, lap steel, vocals) and Martin Hansen (guitars, harmonica, vocals), hailing from Sweden, contributed musically as well as credited for arrangements on the album.
