For a while there the joint presser with President Obama and Chancellor Merkel was looking a hot mess, what with all the translators' mics and earpieces malfunctioning. Neither Obama nor Merkel are holding their hand to their ear anymore, indicating all is OK again. C-SPAN is streaming, but this part is really all you need to know... if you are a self-conscious German seeking the American president's approval, that is.
Rough translation:
German reporter: "You have been to Deutschland a couple of times. Did you find us to be a bunch of Nazi-racists?"
President Obama: "Nah. Ya'll were aiiight."
So touched was Obama by the reporter's validation quest that he felt fit to divulge that his sister once went to Germany and dated a German, or something. All parties are presently OK, so things can't have gone too badly. International crisis averted.
