German Fest is a festival of German culture at Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest Grounds) in downtown Milwaukee from Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, July 26, 2009. Milwaukee, Wisconsin Summerfest Main Gate courtesy Summerfesthas  a rich German heritage from the many German immigrants that settled in the community. German Fest celebrates the European heritage with music, food, dancing, Weiner Dog Races and musical entertainment.  New this year is the Saturday Night Air Show over the Milwaukee Harbor.  

German Fest Thursday Night Haus Special
On opening night there will be free admission and food discounts on July 23. The admission, food and beverage prices remain the same on 2008, but the Thursday Night Haus Special features free admission to German Fest and $1 off most beverages and food items. There are 15 German Fest food booths and more than 23 German Fest bars. Enjoy the pleasures of German food and drink.
Weiner Dog Races on Saturday Afternoon
The third annual Dachshund Races and Costume Contest takes place on Saturday, July 25 from noon to 4 pm.  Join the fun as these adorable sausage shaped dogs of German origin compete in one of the most popular events of German  Fest. See this video from the 2008 German Fest Weiner Dog races.


 
German Fest Saturday Night Air Show
The Night Air Show on Saturday night, July 25 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm is an exciting new event. The air show will take place over the Harbor immediately east of the festival grounds. High performance military and aerobatic planes will perform demonstration and thrilling aerobatics.

Fireworks

Fireworks will light up the skies over German Fest Friday through Sunday night. The fireworks will begin at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9:30 p.m.

Musical Entertainment
Cheerful German music will be played throughout the festival. Headlining entertainment includes German pop singer Styrina, Chikeria from Munich, Copper Box , The Jerry Schneider Band, Alpensterne, The Freistadt Alte Kameraden Band, The Johnny Wagner Band, Johnny Hoffman & Die Herzbuben, Austrian Express  and The Phoenix Band.
German Cultural Village
German Fest in MilwaukeeThe German Cultural Village features the Auswandererwelt Ballinstadt Museum from Hamburg and the Deutsches Ausandererhaus, Bremerhaven or Bermerhaven – German Emigration Center. The museum, which opened in 2007, is dedicated to the five million people who left Europe between 1850 and 1939 via the port of Hamburg in search of a better life across the Atlantic, usually to the U.S.A.

  • Adult tickets $13 (or $10 in advance through ticket outlets)
  • Seniors (60+ with ID) $7
  • Students (with ID) $7
  • Children 12 and under are always free with adult
Admission Specials
  • Thursday – Free all day
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Free for Military Personnel and family with active military IS
  • Friday – Handicapped and an escort get free admission from 3 pm to 5 pm
  • Sunday – Mass attendees get free admission immediately after the 10:30 am mass in the Marcus Amphitheater
  • Sunday – Hunger Task Force Food Drive – free admission a the North Gate only, from 1 pm to 3 pm with the donation of non-perishable food items
