Gerard Butler’s new comedy the only new movie out this weekend

It’s a slow weekend this week. While the major Hollywood studios are keeping their next major films close to the vest so that they can bring all of them out at once just before the Christmas holiday. So, for studios looking to capture the weekend date market, or the people who like relatively light romantic comedies, this is the time to put something out. Which appears to be exactly what happened this weekend as the new Gerard Butler starring vehicle comes out. It’s a light comedy that also stars Jessica Biel and it’s the only major movie that is hitting theaters this weekend.

The movie opening this weekend, December 7, 2012:

Playing for Keeps - Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman. Butler plays a former soccer star who is no longer playing soccer professionally. Now that he is no longer playing the sport that he has loved his entire adult life, he tries to go back and patch things up with his ex-wife (Biel), who is now living calmly and quietly in the suburbs with her young son. In an attempt to patch things up, he agrees to coach her son’s soccer team. However, he soon finds he is the most sought after single man in the neighborhood as all of the soccer moms start showing up at the games just to watch the coach. The movie was apparently not screened for critics, as there have been no advanced reviews of the film, which can be a warning sign. At the same time, fans of light-hearted romantic comedies, and Gerard Butler, will probably find the movie entertaining. Rated PG-13.
