Gerard Butler has been voted Scot of the Year 2009 in the annual poll conducted by ScotsCare, a London based charity for first and second generation Scots in need of help.
Taking 66% of the vote, the Paisley-born Butler proved more popular than second-place winner Susan Boyle who only brought in 26% of the votes having made her mark in the British talent competition, Britain's Got Talent.
Butler has made his mark on Hollywood in films such as 300, The Ugly Truth and Law Abiding Citizen.
In a press release, ScotsCare Chief Executive Willie Docherty said, “Gerard has certainly proved a popular winner amongst the females in our office. We had a great list of contenders that would do any country proud. Burn’s day is a very fitting time to celebrate the great people associated with Scotland.”

YES!!! No surprise that he did win, he is a very special man and Scotland is his home. I am so happy he won and I am happy to know him even if is only through his screen career. His special appeal comes from his Scottish heritage. his brogue, his mannerisms, his franknes and honesty, the love he expresses in so many ways about the beautiful hills, lochs, and countryside in Scotland ..Gerard. you have many fans out here who love and respect you as I do...Congratulations..you deserve this honor.
Kudos to Betty!!
I could not have said it any better. The man deserves all the good that can come his way. He has a heart as big as Scotland and his love of those that need help in anyway, is astounding. He is always giving of himself for the good of others. He won my heart in 1998 and I have never faltered in my love for this incredible man. Evry time I turn around, Gerry has done another thing to help others. As Betty said, "his Scottish heritage, his brogue, his mannerisms, his frankness and honesty." All these attributes make for an awesome man. I also Congratulate you Gerry, you so very much deserve this honor!!!
