Geralt's previous romances will 'play a role' in 'The Witcher 3's' story

Mature sexual relationships don't exactly come to mind when you think of video games. However, over the past decade we've seen a huge increase in the amount of variability in sexual orientation. As such, in our exclusive interview with Andrzej Kwiatkowski, Gameplay Designer at CD Projekt Red, we asked him whether we might see this reflected in the upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

"We’re making a game for mature gamers so yes, sexual themes are present in the game," begins Kwiatkowski.

"Regarding Geralt’s sexual preferences, we haven’t even thought about that, to be honest. Geralt is a predefined character with a pretty well-described love life (read the books, you’ll know what I mean) so introducing homosexual relations would be going against the lore that’s been well established."

Projekt Red has a very valid reason in that Geralt is already a rooted character, but Kwiatkowski offers some consolation, "His previous romantic involvements play a role in the main story, too."

Of course we've seen choices, sexual or otherwise, have an impact on various events in a game, but to have it influence the main storyline? That's something rarely seen.
