Georgia Warrrior Dash its’ active entertainment (Photos)

We left the year 2012 with a different feel due to the Connecticut school shooting, and people are getting involved in fun again. It’s a time of year when a lot of people set fitness goals. Warrior Dash Race is a 5-6K mud obstacle run where costumes are encouraged. Where does Warrior Dash fit into your fitness?

Warrior Dash is everywhere now in 50 different locations around the country and it’s a different twist on your typical running 5K. The first race was in 2009 and it’s been growing in leaps and hurdles since then. 100 ft. long giant “muddy mayhem” ends each race after you crawl under the barbed wire, unlike your nice easy run normal 5K. It’s the “dirty fun” you were probably never allowed to do when you were growing up. It’s becoming more active without making the run look like such a bore chore.

“Dress-up”

Everybody played dress up to some extent as a kid from a superman cape to a tutu and dressing up for the event is another way to take the stress and worry out of an event that is good for your heart health and lightens your daily work stress load.

Most people can do a 5K

The beauty of signing up for races is that it’s a goal for you and you’ve got something to prepare for, and the Warrior Dash is no different. Some people struggle and it’s an extreme challenge, it is a timed race. Others fly through it to beat the clock while teams and groups come to support each other and just have fun. Every course is a little bit different depending where it is being held and what is available. The best thing you can do for yourself is to have motivation. It’s a new inspiration to get healthy. Many people used it as a springboard to get started in fitness, to go on to other races. A warrior Dash is not as intimidating when you are just getting back into fitness as maybe a straight forward marathon or race is. The WD is a balanced workout it’s not just a run. The website has a few suggestions for exercises and doing a small amount of working with weights to get you ready for the race.

WD is for all ages

Parents and grandparents show up to join in the fun, senior citizens come as groups and with their families to have a great time. It’s a fun obstacle race for the whole family, it is a family event and it is encouraged that way. There is an After Party there are bands and a party, and you can have a beer, but its good wholesome clean fun. Fire departments usually get involved to hose people off after the race if you want.

Safety is the races priority

First Aid is on site, and the barbed wire is real you do get nicked and cut if you brush up against it. The most injuries the race sees is a twisted joint, nothing severe has ever occurred.
