It seems pretty likely that a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket will get drafted in the first round, and it also seems that at least one of them will get picked in the top 15. In the end it seems very likely that four Tech players will be drafted in 2010, with a fifth that is currently on the bubble.
With all that being said, let us take a look at the top prospects from Georgia Tech:
1. Derrick Morgan, DE- At 6-4 and 272 pounds Derrick Morgan certainly looks like an elite NFL end. While he is only a junior, he has all the skills to be an excellent end on the next level. IN 2009 he registered 55 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 18.5 tackles for a loss. Most mock drafts have him going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with their first pick.
2. Jonathan Dwyer, RB- Most recent mock drafts have Dwyer being taken in the later stages of the first round. He ran for nearly 1,400 yards on 235 carries he has all the skills to flourish in the NFL.
3. Demaryius Thomas, WR- Before he broke his foot he projected out as a second to third round pick. Now his stock might suffer a bit. He also played in the goofy offense at Tech, so some scouts are a bit down on him. However he ranks out as the 4th or fifth best WR prospect, with a solid spot in most top 50 big boards.
4. Morgan Burnett, FS- Morgan seems to project as a mid second round pick. He is the fourth best safety prospect for this draft. Many had him higher that this, but he underachieved in the 2009 season. He is a ball hawk, and should he fall past the second round he will be an excellent value pick for some team. He can play both safety spots in the NFL.
5. Cord Howard, OG- Cord is on the bubble, he is the 13th best OG prospect, and well into the 200’s on most big boards. He may need some seasoning time in the UFL.
