Lambuth (1-1) lost 34-19 at Division II Arkansas Tech last Thursday. The host Wonder Boys, perhaps one of the most colorful nicknames in collegiate athletics, were 9-3 last season. Lambuth's next game is at Georgia State this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Jacksonville State (1-0) stunned Ole Miss 49-48 in overtime in Oxford, Miss. Down 31-10 at halftime and 31-13 at the end of the third quarter, the Gamecocks scored 21 in the fourth quarter to tie the game 34-34. Then in overtime, down 48-41 and facing fourth down and 15 yards to go from Mississippi's 30-yard line, quarterback Coty Blanchard launched a clutch touchdown pass.

Instead of settling for the tie, JSU went for the jugular when Blanchard found running back Calvin Middleton in a crowd for the winning two-point conversion. Jacksonville State's next game is this Saturday at home against Chattanooga at 7 p.m. (ET).

Campbell (1-0) won at Virginia-Wise 20-16 last night. Camel quarterback Daniel Polk ran for the winning touchdown with eight seconds left from the one-yard line. Virginia Wise competes in the same NAIA conference as Shorter and Lambuth. Campbell's next game is vs. Old Dominion at home next Saturday at 1 p.m.

Morehead State (0-1) easily lost at James Madison last night 48-7. The Eagles committed five turnovers against the 15th-ranked (FCS) Dukes last night. Morehead State hosts St. Francis (Pa.) this Saturday at 1 p.m.

North Carolina Central (1-0) won at home 59-0 vs. Division II Johnson C. Smith last Thursday. The Eagles' next game is at home vs. Winston-Salem State this Saturday at 6 p.m.

Old Dominion (0-1) was disappointed last night at home vs. non-scholarship Jacksonville, 35-25. The visiting Dolphins benefited from two interceptions in their end zone off ODU quarterback Thomas DeMarco. The last interception was followed by a clinching Jacksonville touchdown drive. ODU travels to Campbell this Saturday at 1 p.m.

South Alabama (1-0) won at home over  Pikeville College 56-0 yesterday. Pikeville plays in the same NAIA conference as Shorter, Lambuth and Virginia Wise. The Jaguars' next game is September 18 at home vs. Nicholls State at 5 p.m. (ET).

Lamar (0-1) lost at McNeese State last night 30-27, but actually the loss was impressive. The host Cowboys were ranked 11th nationally (FCS) and have been a strong Southland Conference member. Cardinal quarterback Andre Bevil threw for 421 yards and three touchdowns. Lamar next hosts Webber International this Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET).

Alabama  (1-0) had an easy time with San Jose State 48-3 yesterday while rolling up 591 yards. The Crimson Tide host Penn State this Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET).
