The incident occurred when the teenager opened fire on the elementary school with an assault rifle in Atlanta. Close to 800 children, from pre-kindergarten to the fifth grade, were evacuated from Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy after the shooting.
The suspect was 19-years-old and has no known ties to the school. This is the second teen-based shooting in as many days, following a baseball player killed by three teenagers in Oklahoma just "for fun."
The baseball player was an Australian and a former deputy prime minister urged Australian people not to visit America because of the ease of anyone to get a gun and the "callous attitude" of America concerning gun control.
The Georgia school shooting saw the gunman get into the school, past the areas where people needed to be buzzed in. He did not get past the front office and held some people hostage while the police tried to talk him out. When the police finally took the man into custody, they said he had other weapons on him as well.
