HENRY COUNTY, GA – On Monday, March 10 Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal will make an appearance as a part of the Read Across Georgia initiative spanning the month of March. The First Lady will share a poem and book, before taking time for a photo opportunity.

She will visit Stockbridge Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. and Dutchtown Elementary at 10:30 a.m.

According to First Lady Deal, “Parental activities as simple as reading stories aloud to young children can greatly improve and enhance our students’ reading and literacy skills.”

The Read Across Georgia initiative is aimed at increasing reading and literacy rates for children by the third grade.

“Georgia children are a precious resource and undoubtedly capable of being the future leaders of our state,” said Deal. “We, as parents, teachers and mentors, must take it upon ourselves to ensure that our students are good readers.”
