In June Georgia lost the third highest number of jobs in the nation. According a report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this week, Georgia lost 31,200 jobs from June 2009 to June 2010. Only California and Colorado lost more jobs. Georgia's long-term unemployment figures are even worse. The number of workers out of work more than 27 weeks has risen 143% since this time last year.

Georgia's labor market has been hard hit by job losses in the construction, manufacturing, banking, and travel industries. And although Georgia's unemployment rate inched down to 10.0% from 10.1% in May, the jobless rate is still relatively high. June was the 33rd consecutive month that Georgia's unemployment rate has exceeded the national rate, according the the Georgia Labor Department. The national unemployment rate remains unchanged at 9.5% for the month of June.
