Commissioner Ralph Hudgens signed the final word and the order is, insurance companies must carry “child-only” policies beginning January 1, 2013. Georgia parents who want to take care of their children with insurance can do that now during open enrollment from January 1-31.
The uninsured children
Parents and guardians must be encouraged to enroll so that children will be able to get the quality and affordable healthcare they need. Uninsured guardians and parents need take advantage of the open enrollment who may have lost insurance due to job change. A guardian may also purchase this type of plan if they have Medicare.
House Bill 1166 was established by Georgia Legislature to assist unwed mothers under the age of 19
Many of the women at this age do not have access to good insurance, and this gives the mothers options and makes plain good sense where their children are concerned. If you apply during the open enrollment the child’s insurance will begin in March 1, 2013. Children who may have lost their insurance after January 1, 2013 will be eligible for special open enrollment offered throughout the year.
