Georgia animal rescue saves three legged dog from euthanasia

Leave it to Angels Among Us, a northern Georgia non profit-animal rescue whose mission is to save dogs and cats from high-kill animal facilities who certainly live up to their name. Just one day away from imminent euthanasia at a county shelter, Merle Dixon, a pit bull mix with part of his front leg severed, underwent surgery on Monday afternoon and will be leaving Georgia Veterinary Specialists Tuesday afternoon for his new foster home.

According to CBS Atlanta.com, rescuer Melissa De Feis found the dog at Fulton County Animal Shelter and knew that a dog in that condition would have no chance of being adopted and would be placed on the euthanasia list.

"As soon as I saw him with that missing leg, I knew that his death was imminent and he was going to be put down, and I knew I wanted to save him," Melissa told CBS Atlanta.

The organization's Facebook page is full of well-wishes for Merle, an adorable dog who had his useless limb amputated and is now expected to make a full recovery. Dogs don't seem to have much trouble adjusting to their tripod conditions.

After all, any dog named after a Walking Dead character deserves a new life full of love, energy, and fun.

Angels Among Us are raising funds for Merle's operation and his veterinary charges. If you would like to help, more information can be found about the organization and other beautiful cats and dogs available for adoption by clicking here.
